The plugin uses the exact same editor as posts and pages does so there is no difference there. However, you are correct that it does not save a draft and I'm not sure it is possible to do so although I will take a look as that would be a useful feature.
What sort of a twitch did you have that caused you to lose your data? The only thing I can think of would be accidentally hitting the back button.
